Beginning Your Fitness Regimen - Successfully
I recently returned from the idea incubator seminar hosted by Stu McLaren. This event is for anyone trying to improve their online business and delivers a multitude of on and offline business ideas from a panel of top-notch speakers.I had the pleasure of talking one-on-one with Stu at the event over lunch one day. I always get a lot of “ah-has” after speaking with Stu, but this particular meeting really opened up the flood gates.Stu was saying that the biggest question many of the students have is “How do I get started?” He felt this was a very tough question because there are many
When you spend 40+ hours a week at your desk, it’s important to make it your own. Pictures, lighting, cartoons, calendars — they’re all easy ways to put your stamp on your space. But just as your clothing at work gives an impression of you, the way you decorate and organize your desk offers up some impressions of its own. Keep it real and professional with these tips for personalizing your workspace.

    Work with what you’ve got

Chances are, you don’t have a lot of control over the furniture in your cubicle. However, you might be surprised at what a big difference the little details can make. Instead of positioning your computer on the side like everyone else, try opening up some desk space by putting the monitor in the corner. That ugly guest chair in your workspace? Bring in a small, tasteful throw pillow in a coordinating color to dress it up a little, and angle the chair instead of wedging it in the corner to make it more inviting.

    Comfort counts

The fluorescent lights that grace most offices aren’t particularly flattering, and they’re awful for your eyes, especially when you spend a lot of time looking at a computer. Incandescent and full-spectrum lights can add a personal touch to your desk and can increase your comfort and productivity, and they’re a cheap way to add a little personality to a drab cube.

    Kill the clutter

If your desk is in disarray, you’ll give the appearance of being scatterbrained or disorganized. Utilize colored folders, stackable in-boxes, and funky dishes and canisters to keep your clutter contained and to show your style. Glass jars with a cool design make great pen cups, garage sale saucers and small bowls are great for holding paper clips and rubber bands, and ladder-style folder holders will keep everything in sight and off of your work surface. Business - Did You Understand That?
There are times in the corporate world where we may get frustrated with our boss. They may even say things we may agree with, but sometimes they won’t even make sense. The following statements are from memos or emails from some well known national and international businesses. The names of the businesses have been removed to avoid any unintentional embarrassment. As of tomorrow, employees will only be able to access the building using individual security cards. Pictures will be taken next Wednesday and employees will receive their cards in two weeks. What I need is a list of spe

    The Olympic Games and Business
Nothing on earth can bring humanity together than the Olympic Games. It also applies that nothing can bring global business together than the quadrennial meet.Last weekend, the mountain city of Turin, host to Italy’s industrial revolution and the holiest relic in Roman Catholicism, became host to more than 2,000 athletes from some 88 participating nations. The twentieth edition of the Olympic Winter Games, like other Winter and Summer Olympiads, also brought in a host of businesses. These companies collaborate with the local government of the host city with guidance from the Internat

Which of these 4 Advertising Sins are You Guilty of?
Advertising is a very precise science. It finds its bases in many different fields including copywriting, psychology and even math. In recent decades, we have observed a slow but steady beautification of advertising. For marketing experts this can work. For less savvy advertisers, it is a huge pitfall that draws attention away from the much more important aspects of a successful selling proposition. Faulty advertising costs its makers billions of dollars a year, and almost all are guilty of it, even the huge corporations. For the sake of clarity, let us define advertising as a call to

    A Career in Management Accounting
Often this area is referred to as “Reporting” in the company structure, but it is so much more than that! Management accounts are concerned with:• The process of identification, measurement and accumulation of product and service costs• Preparation of statements relating to materials, labor and overhead• Standard costs• Budgeting for decision-making• The communication of information used by management to plan, evaluate and control the entity as well as assure accountability over it’s resources and assure their proper use (the reporting function). In addit

    Personal, to a degree

Pictures of you and your boyfriend out to dinner are cool; pictures of you and your boyfriend at the beach? Probably more of you (and him) than your coworkers want to see. Pictures of you and your friends on a girls’ night out are super fun; pictures of you and your friends doing kegstands? Definitely not the persona you want to exude at the office. Ditto for decorative picture frames with alcohol, slacker, or illegal themes. As a general rule of thumb, if you wouldn’t want your grandmother or a complete stranger to look too closely at it, it doesn’t belong on your desk.

    Good taste is tantamount

A nice wall calendar is a small touch that can really make your workspace feel like your own. When decorating, remember that even though it’s technically your desk, it’s open to other people all day, every day, when they’re just going about their daily lives, and people will definitely notice if there’s something disquieting about your area. Calendars with sexy, well-oiled models are a definite no-no. A puppy or kitten calendar might be oh-so-cute at home, but it can make you seem childish at work. Your safest bet is artwork or artistic photographs – or if you really want to impress – one of those inspirational calendars that exhorts the value of perseverance and teamwork will show everyone what a motivated go-getter you are.
