Go Beyond Hearing and Listen, Listen, Listen
If we listened twice as much as we talked, we would be a lot further down the road to success. People sometimes think I am very quiet when they first meet me. Those that know me are aware that I am quite the opposite. When I am in a setting where I do not know anyone, I spend my time listening to conversations. I pick up good information about most people at the event. Once I feel I have enough to go on, I will put my hat in the ring and speak up. If most people did the same thing, they would learn how to participate in a conversation. Not only do you have to listen to conversations, you actually have to hear what they are saying. It is only through hearing that you will gain an understanding. I am not saying you need to understand every conversation but you do need to understand enough to make an intelligent comment to get into the circle.Another way to get into a conversation is to reiterate what you have just heard. I use, "did I hear you say . . . . .?” The response is usually yes and then they continue to explain why they said it. This is your opportunity to follow up with your comments. You must continue to listen and hear throughout any conversation and only make a comment when

    Ring In The New Year
The New Year is almost here and most of us are thinking about how we might be healthier, happier, wealthier and more productive. Here are my suggested resolutions to help you accomplish these goals. For Bookkeepers:Re-educate yourself – there is always something new to learn. See if your company offers education reimbursements and apply for them. You might want to consider non-bookkeeping type classes as well, such as classes in communications, organization, managerial skills and computer training.Organize yourself- the best way to be more productive. Start with your workspace and then move on to your work day. Ask your boss to fund the purchase of a Day-Timer or other similar organization tool and use it every day.Get Certified – a sure career booster. By earning a certified bookkeeper designation you will bring added value to your resume.Think about specialization – as in most professions, specializing in one or two industries will increase your value in the workplace as you will be familiar with the specific requirements for that industry. These recommendations not only work for bookkeepers but for all dedicated employees of any type.Fo
I have been observing my 4 year old daughter and I have marveled
at how she always manages to take over a situation.
She gets more attention by not saying anything than all of
the other loud mouth kids her age.
The people at her school make a big deal out of anything
that she says because she doesn’t say much.
    She's also pretty resourceful.

For example, if she is hungry and no one is
really paying her any attention, she’ll go in the kitchen and
get a snack from the cupboard.
If she wants something that she can’t reach she'll
find one of her "big people" to get it for her.
