Bicycle shops are sprawled through out cities and neighborhoods of America. In fact most of us remember being taken to a bike shop when we were of age to get our first bicycle.

But things have changed, thanks to the innovation of the Internet. These days, anyone can get on the Internet from their home, office and even at the local coffee shop to buy music, clothes and gather information for a school report.

The Internet has also influenced the bicycle business. More bicycle companies are selling directly to the consumer via the Internet. Take for example Woodstock Bikes of Woodstock, Georgia. They don’t have a brick and mortal store front, which enables them to pass on the savings directly to the customer. With that in mind, Woodstock Bikes are able to offer the same level bikes as big brand companies such as Specialized, Cannondale and many more, for a fraction of the price.

One of the largest bicycle companies in the US offers a full suspension mountain bike that has specs that are very similar to the Woodstock 707 full suspension bike. The leading company has a sticker price for their model of $1399 and it is only available at a bicycle shop. Woodstock Bikes offers the 707 model and it sells for about $899 directly from their website. That’s a $500 savings!

Would the fact that Woodstock Bike’s only store front is their web address be enough to allow someone to save $500 per bike? Perhaps this is the key to the formula of selling new bicycles. Woodstock Bikes some how figured out they could offer the same level of bicycle as the big bike companies by offering their product directly to the consumer via the Internet.

With that said, it makes me wonder why the big bicycle companies haven’t gone the route of selling their brands via Internet alone. But then again, I’m sure Woodstock Bikes would want to keep things just the way they are.
