Using Christmas to Keep in Contact With Your Customers
The end of the year is fast approaching. I remember that years back I would take a couple weeks in December and just solidify my relationships with my buyers and sellers. I know that we are a little early right now but it is a good time to plan as some of the work can mount up during December if you are lucky.Today, go through your list of clients and maybe clients and decide two things:1. What is the value of this relat

Using Promotional Products To Grow An Online Community
Among the hottest web sites these days are community portals and social networking sites. Community sites are nothing new in the online world – AOL has always been based on community, for instance – but the word and the concept is taking on a whole new popularity and meaning today. Sites like Facebook and Myspace have taken off into outer space by combining new technology with old marketing knowhow. Tell a friend to bring a friend and
You may have been designing jewelry for years before you sold your first piece, but does this now constitute you as being a business owner? Some seem to think however, when results aren’t exactly what they expected they tend to develop a I knew it wasn’t going to work type attitude and simply quit. You may be the most talented designer ever, your friends and family and a few other regular customers may sing your praises, yet you are still a hobbyist. Why is this? Because that is exactly how you are treating your business. It is important that you take the necessary steps to cross over in to a business from a hobbyist; it is not just going to happen by chance.

A common thing that will keep you in the hobby mode is the everyday distractions that occur when working at home. Included would be Spouses, children, family and friends dropping over, and the biggie, household duties. If you are the one at home, naturally these duties will mostly fall upon your shoulders. A good idea would be to sit and talk with everyone involved and let them all know upfront what your plan of action will be in order to balance out everything.

When working for yourself discipline is necessary, no longer is there anyone standing over your shoulders making sure you stick to your work schedule. That person now becomes you, so it is up to you and no one else to stick to your work schedule. Before you can do that first you must have a schedule, this schedule should be posted where everyone involved has access to it. Wrongful Termination: Were You Wrongfully Terminated?
Wrongful termination can be a devastating experience that not only affects your career in the short term but can also affect your ability to get back on your feet and find a new job.Firstly, your specific job and the employment contract that you signed and the local employment laws that govern where you live may largely determine whether or not you are a victim of wrongful termination. For example, if you signed a confide

Dressing Casual Should Not Be the Norm
By: Donald J. Eversdyk February 18, 2007The latest fashion trend that seems to be becoming the norm is the way people dress. Whether it is for work, daily activities, or a special event, people are lowering their standards. Seems everywhere I go lately either people don’t care what they look like, are just plain lazy, or a combination of both. I’d like to give you three examples that happened to me in the past month.A

    Cheap Background Checks
Increased crime, terrorism and employee liabilities have forced employers to avail of services offered by agencies providing background checks. Getting a detailed, in-depth background check by a reputed agency may be a costly affair. There do exist a number of companies providing cheap background check. However, they may not provide adequate and up to the mark information. Another source of obtaining cheap services for a background ch

What to do When Starting a Home-Based Business
Starting a business can be a daunting task. Especially for the home-based business owner. Finding financing is only one of the issues you face as a new business owner. Because you are going to be working out of your home, you need to be extra careful when setting up your business. You need to have everything planned out before you even open your doors. The first thing you should do is find out if your city has zoning rules regar

If you have small children at home and your budget allows maybe during the times of day that you will be working you can hire a p/t home-maker or college student to come in and watch the children while you work. In order for this to work, you must have a designated area in your home as your workspace. If it becomes necessary, create a sign to hang outside of your door that says work in progress or for small children, hang a big red stop sign on your door. Help your family help you work by giving them visual clues that will get them accustomed to you working at home, rather than you just being at home.

Treat your business as a business. If you allow friends and extended family members to drop by at will or call and chit chat at will, then they are not going to take your working at home seriously because you don’t.

Another potential time stealer is writing and responding to written communication via e-mail. Even though this has become a necessary tool today, if we are not careful we can spend hours on just checking email that has nothing to do with our business. To alleviate this, allot time at the beginning of the day and at the end of the day to take care of communications.

Stay focus, if you have returned home from the work place to pursue your jewelry or craft business, focus is a necessity. Before, you may have received a salary for putting in a certain amount of hours per week. Working for yourself pays just a tad bit differently; you are paid according to productivity. Therefore remember, if you Don’t work, or promote, you Don’t get paid. Set goals for yourself, challenge yourself if that keeps you working. Do not wait until you sit down a
