Undeniably lovely beaches serve as the primer for what will surely be a satisfying getaway. There’s a reason that millions of people visit Acapulco every year, and spring break festivities and mundane bar food are not the primary draws. For thousands of years, yes thousands, Acapulco has been an active seaport and busy place to be. Spending some time here will be a nice change, however, so enjoy the scenic drive and the feeling of escaping the crowds for a bit.
Several Acapulco hotspots can be recommended, including Zocalo. This is essentially the town square, and is the place to experience a more authentic taste of the local culture. It would be helpful to know Spanish if you’d care to order enchiladas without advertising your status as a tourist, but you’ll probably be able to get by just fine no matter what. The prices are reasonable here, and as you walk around you’ll feel like you truly are in another country. Hint: don’t miss Acapulco’s Cathedral as you wander the streets of Zocalo.
