What causes the Sacred Flame to burn in your heart?
This wondrous Fire of the Spirit is present within you all along, but you must awaken to it, and once you do, you begin feeling it. What you begin to realize and sense is the love of God for you. God has always loved you and always will, but now you are feeling it fervently. This love of God for you instantly stimulates your yearning and devotion toward Him, awakening your own love for the Most Holy One. You find yourself loving God, because He first loved you. It is a budding relationship between the lover -- you -- and the Beloved -- God. When your Creator becomes the passionate focal point of your love and devotion, becoming the Beloved, the flame in your heart will grow strongly and passionately, and oftentimes you feel like your whole chest is on fire, and then your whole being. This is an experience of genuine spiritual love between you and God, as lover and Beloved. It is the dance of life of the Divine Romance.
However, as your inner unfoldment transpires, you begin noticing that there is no real separation between your love for God, and God's love for you. You realize you're yearning love for the Beloved is simultaneously God's love for you. Only one flow is in motion. Then you realize that your heart and God's Heart become one, for in essence they are the same.
You realize that the inner self that you are that yearns for your divine Beloved is in fact the same Self of God loving you. It is in essence one Divine Beingness of Love that is expressing and emanating throughout the whole Creation and all living beings. Esoterically, this is self loving Self, God seeing His reflection in the mirror, that reflection being the Creation, which He loves and unites with. This is likewise expressed through the individual souls, like rays from the Sun, when each of us realizes we are one with our Divine Source through surrender and love.
“The Creator and I are one.” This truth can't be easily grasped intellectually, because it can only be realized and experienced within your heart and soul, especially when you feel it burning deep within, and spreading throughout your whole body and entire being. The Sacred Flame of your heart will lead you to Divine Union finally.
The path to Divine Union is truly very simple, although the ego endeavors to complicate the journey.
