So You Want to Be a Bodyguard?
Then let me start by helping out. The politically correct phrase these days is not "bodyguard" but personal protection specialist, executive protection specialist or close protection operative, depending on your place of training and other preferences. There can be no better time than this, if you want to excel in this charismatic business. Almost all the elite soldiers that crowded the trade just a few years back, has gone to Afghanistan or Iraq, providing personal protection for major corporations or the governments in the same countries. The ones that are not working there, used to, and are trying to recuperate. Actually, YOU mi

5 Keys to Leadership in Business... More Than Just Managing
Leading vs ManagingWhether you are the owner of your own business, the chief executive of a corporation, or a manager rising through the ranks, it is critical to develop your leadership skills. Great leadership brings great results. A great manager can get great results but the results reflect on a project or goal, not on the long term process of leading people. A manager can bring a project in on time or perhaps under budget, but a leader gets great results working with people, building relationships, and empowering all members which motivates even better results in the future.Managers can be useful and successful at achieving p
Globally, senior management as a profession is underperforming. A chronic case of under-management of tasks and people has developed over the years on the back of management fads and copy cat management replacing focused, systemic thought.

In the environment that this poor style of management and communication creates, enterprising employees will create their own goals and assume their own level of responsibility. The diffusion of effort created to achieve a broad range of contradictory goals results in an underperforming

    How to Commit Brand Suicide
A graphic designer spoke to me last week. His graphic design firm -- let's call it XYZ Design -- was numero uno in designing labels for a large wine company. Let's call that ABC Wines. Now ABC wines had some really super wines. They loved the incomparable graphic design of XYZ design, and continued to use them for several of their major brands. This one client alone generated tons of work and income for XYZ design right through the year. Then It Happened...ABC Wines sold out to another wine company. This new wine company had its own in-house graphic designers. That effectively meant XYZ Design's income and work flow were severely

    Hurry Up and Wait
Recently, I walked over to my bank for what I hoped would be a quick transaction, and felt I was in luck as one of the five tellers had only one person in her line, while the others all had two or three. So I headed for that teller. Big mistake. The customer being helped obviously had some sort of problem, and the teller moved back and forth taking care of it. And of course, I was afraid to change lines, for fear of getting in an even slower one. As I have so many times before, I wondered why this bank doesn’t have the more customer-friendly system of “next available teller” queuing. This time I decided to seek out the manager.I was not

    Increasing Your Sphere of Influence
Word-of-mouth advertising is one of the cheapest and most effective types of advertising your company can invest in, but how do we generate this elusive type of advertising? Most experts in the area will say, “Get out and ‘network’.” So we go to a Chamber of Commerce meeting with dozens or even hundreds of other people trying to promote their company or service, and we attempt to promote our company or service as well. Very few people come to these meetings to buy things. The odds seem to be stacked against from the beginning, so is it any wonder why most of us come back from these meetings thinking that we just wasted an hour or two?<

    Medical Billing - EA0 Record Fields 1 Through 9
When doing medical billing of claims by electronic means, the EA0 record that gets transmitted is one of the largest records in a claim file, containing 55 unique fields that need to be sent. These fields give the payer information about the claim itself including when the condition was diagnosed to what the condition is, indicated by a number of very cryptic codes. We're going to be starting a multi part series on the EA0 record with this article.EA0 field 1, positions 1 - 3, is the record type, which needs to be filled with EA0. Anything else in this field and the claim will be denied.EA0 field 2, positions 4 - 5, is reserve
The diffusion of effort created to achieve a broad range of contradictory goals results in an underperforming organisation characterised by low morale, blame shifting and poor utilisation of human and financial assets.

Evidence for the global nature of the level of underperformance arrives every day in the morning newspaper. We are confronted with stories ranging from the recent reported "lack of leadership" at Abu Grhaib to the apparent deliberate misreporting of profits at Tyco, WorldCom and Enron and rogue trading at the Nati
