Should You Specialize in a Given Subject as a Writer - or Not?
Okay, so you are interested in writing something, anything, but don't know where to begin. For example, you're not sure whether you should know something about a given subject or not.According to Bob Bly, you should specialize after you've had some things published and gained some recognition as a writer. This is probably excellent advice if you are interested in a few things and are unable to decide which of those things you should write about. Doing this is a great idea, in my opinion, if you just want to get an article written and ready for publication. Your enthusiasm enables you to move forward and sets a pace. You are so busy writing about

    Getting Published
A recent survey showed that more than eighty percent of Americans want to write a book. This extraordinary statistic is somewhat puzzling considering that the National Endowment for the Arts estimates that only fifty-seven percent of Americans have read even 1 book in the last twelve months! What is it that makes people -- even non-readers -- want to put pen to paper?Perhaps it's the desire for fame and fortune, the need to earn the respect of others, or maybe it's just the wish to leave some mark on the future, a permanent record of a life lived.Whatever the reason, for those who actually complete a manuscript, the odds of seeing i
From our deconstruction of hundreds of Hollywood blockbusters at www.managing-creativity.com/

The Hero's Journey is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the Hollywood movies we have deconstructed are based on this template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters.

    The Hero's Journey:

    a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

    b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

    c) Interpreted metaphorically, laterally and symbolically, allows an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

Managing Change - The Key Ingredient to Driving Change
When you’re setting about to launch a major change effort in your organization there are many things you must do but none are bigger than the one key ingredient to driving change in any organization of any size. What is it you say? Let me tell you a brief story. One time awhile back I was having dinner with the CEO of a $500 million tech company. We were discussing the changes he was trying to drive and how I might help. He went in to great detail all the things he was doing and how if he could sustain the efforts it would change the company. Then he turned and asked, “People just don’t get behind it. What is the key to driving these changes?”s an infinite number of varied stories to be created.

Well, from my 14 years experience of being a legal secretary/word processor in New York I have seen a wide variety of tests ranging from extremely easy to pull-your-own-hair out hard, even if you are bald! But seriously, there are two kinds of tests. Most given are automated computerized tests which are among the easiest. They ask basic questions for example, on a Microsoft Word test how to bold, or add a row to a table with usually the hardest question being how to merge. These ar

    Do Not Fear Cold Calling
Many salespeople are afraid of cold calling and they try to avoid it like the plague. However, a good salesperson knows that if they do not make those cold calls they will have fewer sales interviews and meetings with the proper decision-makers and therefore close less sales.Cold calling is much more efficient for the customer and your company and your sales commission profits. A simple phone call can determine if the company that you are trying to sell to use interested or not. If they are not interested and it is obvious that there is no sale then the salesperson should send literature in an envelope and use hand written notes, asking the d
