    Advertising
Commercial promotion of services, ideas, companies and goods is known as advertising, which plays a very prominent role in business. Advertising is carried out through various media.“Word of mouth” used to be the common form of advertising in ancient times. During the fifteenth and sixteenth century, when the printing industry was properly developed, handbills were included as a medium of advertising. In England, during the seventeenth century, newspapers started carrying advertisement for products. The medicines for diseased Europe and the increasing n
It used to be hard to buy books from Foyles, the world-famous bookshop in London's Charing Cross Road. The building was a warren; the layout was haphazard; staff were hard to find. To buy a book, you had to queue twice -- once to pay and get a receipt from some hapless cashier in a barred cage, and a second time to collect your books. No fun at all.

Nowadays, it's a different store. There are friendly staff, clear signs, lifts, air conditioning, author events, a jazz caf?, a helpful website, the works. It's a pleasure to shop there.

Somewhere along the line, Foyles realised it had to offer FRIES to its customers. French fries? No -- ketchup and grease on the books would be a bad idea. I'm talking about FRIES, the hugely popular business acronym that I've just invented.

Free Newspaper Advertising-How to Get Your Business On the Front Page
Everyone loves free advertising. In some ways it is the Holy Grail of business. But it has to be effective advertising seen by many people. One of my favorites is a newspaper article about your business. This is an elusive goal, and it can be difficult to achieve. Sometimes, it is just being in the right place at the right time. However, there are some basic techniques you can put into play to help position your business for exposure. I have personally used them to get 3 different articles written and published. These techniques have even put me on the evening news.

    Business Angles and Sportsbetting
Sports betting, like any investment, carries risks and rewards. The parallels between betting on sports and playing the stock market are many. In fact, I would argue that they are exactly the same for all intents and purposes.Placing a bet on a team and hoping for a win is no different than buying a particular stock and hoping for a rise in price. There are few differences between sportsbooks and brokerage firms. Both are middlemen who charge you a fee for their services. Both the sports bettor and the stock player are after a return on their investment (pro

60 Hour Work Weeks - Can You and Your Career Survive Them
In the 80s while I was an account executive for AT&T most people in my organization worked normal (for then) business hours. By that I mean they arrived close to 8 or 8:30AM and left between 5 and 5:30PM. By 6 PM the office was empty. No one seemed to notice or care how many hours people worked. I had a boss nicknamed “Dry Cleaner Sam” because they joked he was “in by 10, out by 4”.Most of the time I left on time with everyone else. Several times however when I had a big sale pending I would stay late to get the contract in order or to put the final tou

F is for Friendliness. The simple act of smiling and being friendly towards customers makes an incredible difference. The world's friendliest man works in MVC, a record shop near where I live. You can't walk out not smiling. (By contrast, I always used to walk out fuming from the local branch of Dixons electrical store. Before it was shut down.) And it's not just people - marketing materials, shop fronts and websites can be friendly or hostile too.

R is for Reassurance. When you invest in a one-off product or service, it really helps to have some sort of reassurance about what you’re getting. For example, one of my favourite business gurus is Robert Middleton, who helps ind
