    Big Job Sites Vs The Small Ones
    There is much to say about posting resumes on the big job sites online. There are many positives and also negatives to doing this as well. Posting your resume is a way to get you exposure to recruiters and employers. There really isn't any specific criteria for posting your resume... Only get it out for everyone to see! The more you post, the more exposed your resume.The big job sites are a good source to post as well as the small ones because no matter the difference you are getting your resume exposed to the general public and increase your chances of getting the ideal career or job you seek faster. More is better... Post everywhere to be seen by recruiters and employers.The small job sites being small shouldn't hinder you from posting your resume there, many of these small obscure sites promote on a consistent basis thus your resume may be seen by recruiters more often than previously thought. You never really know who may eyeball your info so it's often very intelligent to just post your resume on as many jobsites as frequently and as much as possible.     Egos and the Workplace - a Question of Shortsightedness
    How many times have you seen a promotion elevate a person’s sense of themselves far beyond what seems warranted? Or are you familiar with the individual who constantly finds fault with the efforts of others as an obvious device to showcase their own greatness? But greatness is not measured in being a big fish in a small pond. Greatness is being a big fish in a big pond, that pond being the entire world . Greatness is rare. It’s unlikely you’ll find it in your organization.The next time you leave the office, open your eyes. What you’ll see everywhere are products of great minds that have created the world we know. No one in your Accounting, HR or even Research and Development Departments are capable of such watershed events or inventions. Automobiles, airplanes, buildings, harnessed electricity, how do we view all this with swelled ego. Of course, you don’t even need to leave the office. Sit at your desk, connected to the internet, and try to convince yourself you’re great.Why bother pointing this out? Aren’t we taught from the time we’re little that we’re special? I only do so because I’ve seen too often how a misguided sense of greatness can make one hypercritical of others. How it bestows on a person the right to judge others. How it can create a distaste for imperfection?If you need further proof of your own limitations, look beyond the inventions of mankind into the expanse of the sky. No, you aren’t great, but you just may approach greatness in your treatment of others. Help others do their jobs more effectively if necessary.
    The values landscape of our nation is changing, and with it your personal values landscape is changing as well.  What does this mean and what does it have to do with midlife?

    Researcher Dr. Paul Ray says that the predominant values set held by Americans has been one he terms Modernist, with roots in the Renaissance.  Modernists presently represent 88 million U.S. adults, or 47% of the population, but the numbers of Modernists are shrinking as those who hold these values are increasingly leaving this subculture and choosing instead the values of one of the other two subcultures ray has found, the Heartlanders (representing traditionalist values) and the Culture Creatives (representing  newly emerging integral values, never before seen in human history).  Heartlanders represent 29% of the population, or 56 million adults, while Culture Creatives represent 24% of the population, or 44 million adults.

    Creating a Work Environment That Works
    Whether you are working at home, in the office, or in your car -- your ability to produce results with the least amount of stress, is directly affected by your physical environment. A functional desk that is ugly can be as much of a deterrent to productivity as a beautiful desk that is not functional. I have spent over twenty years with people working in their homes, offices and cars. One thing has become vehemently clear. Your desk can be your greatest enemy or your best friend.Take a good look at your desk. How does it make you feel? Are you comfortable there? Can you do what you need to do there easily? How does it look to other people? Does it reflect the message you want to give to the world about your work and your values?Analyze the kinds of activities you need or want to do at your desk. If you use a computer, an L-shape desk is usually the best option. Use the short end of the “L” for your computer, and the long end for desk accessories, your telephone, and spreading out papers while you are working.One of the major detractors to an effective and attractive desk are those pesky scraps of paper, which seem to proliferate in your absence and sometimes in your presence! In my experience, an important component of any desk is space for files. I prefer two file drawers in my desk – one for current projects and another for reference materials I use frequently.     Now, what about the Culture Creatives?  Who are they and what do they believe?  Ray names this subculture this way because this is the group that is coming up with the new ideas that are transforming society as we know it.  Culture Creative values tend to be person-focused and environment friendly and include:  psychology; spiritual life; self-actualization; self-expression; mastering new ideas; social concerns; and women’s issues.

    Dr. Ray sees American society as approaching what he terms a “Great Divide” in which the mainstream Modernist subculture is shrinking as members move instead into Heartlander or Culture Creative camps.  Midlife acts as your own personal “Great Divide” and challenges you to choose your own values.  Are you a Modernist?  Will you remain one?  Or are you really more of a Heartlander and just beginning to recognize yourself?  Or are you a Culture Creative who never before could name what you knew you were becoming?  What about your present family and friends?  Or your family of origin?  Or th
