    Customer Service, Italian Style
Nowadays, we complain nearly all of the time about how few businesses remember how to provide quality service to their customers. But a recent trip to Italy not only reminded me that the art of service is not dead, but that providing outstanding service is the key to almost any successful business. Here are a few well-worn but important principles that I was reminded of during that trip:The Customer Always Comes First: When you patronize a retail store or restaurant in Italy, it is almost always the owner of the business that takes care of you. It’s not that there aren’t other employees; other staff members are usually busy straightening inventory or dealing with deliveries. But dealing with customers is simply too important a task to be delegated.Product Knowledge Is King: Remember your last retail shopping experience, where you had to ask three different sales people to get an answer to a simple question about a product? Not in Italy. Every salesperson we dealt with was a product expert, whether it was about the kind of material used in a

    Working From Home
What you need to know · Make a separate space in your home to work from. Keep all your papers and work related things together in this one place. Make sure that your family members know that this is YOUR space to work in and to respect that you are busy if you are in it· There is always that temptation to do “a little bit more” when you work from home. At an office, you can walk away from it. When working from home still try to start the day and finish it at set times.· Get organised by setting up paper and computer filing systems to streamline your work. This will also help the environment to feel more like an office.· Try to establish a support network of other people who are also working from home. Being away from the office environment can be lonely so it is essential to maintain contact with those that can help and support.· Make sure that you still take regular breaks away from your computer and desk. Drink plenty of water and take a lunch break.· Make a list of everything that is important to you - your goals,

Changing Jobs? What about that 401(k)?
So you’ve accepted a lucrative position at another company within your industry. Perhaps you’re in the middle of a career change. Maybe you’re uprooting and heading to greener pastures somewhere else. Whatever the reason, you’re changing jobs. Out with the old, in with the new.Amidst the hassles of moving, finding the kids a new school, and settling in to your new position and community, it’s easy to lose sight of the finish line—retirement. Your 401(k) is probably your most important investment in regards to retirement savings. Don’t let it get lost in the shuffle when a change in your professional life comes along. When switching jobs, there are three things you can do with your existing 401(k): leave it where it is, roll it over into an account with your new employer, or move the money into an IRA. Cashing out the plan is not an option. We repeat: DO NOT CASH OUT YOUR 401(K)! It’ll badly set back your retirement savings plan. You’ll be hit with income taxes plus a penalty of 10 percent if you’re under age 59?. What’s more, you’ll miss out on tax-d

NPI Deadline Extension? How Does the CMS 1500 and NPI Deadline Extension Affect Your Office
There is a lot of buzz out there about the CMS, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services, extending the deadline for NPI’s from May 23, 2007 to May 23, 2008 but what does that mean to the average medical provider’s office? Does that mean that you don’t need to apply for your NPI number for another year?No it doesn’t. Many people misunderstand the purpose of extension. The extension is for entities that are not yet ready to operate on NPI’s alone. In most cases this is insurance carriers whose systems are not ready to process claims based on provider’s NPI numbers only. They still need legacy numbers on the claims in order to process them. Also it doesn’t mean that they just have an extra year to become compliant. If a complaint is filed they must file a contingency plan that outlines their plans for becoming compliant and shows that they ‘in good faith’ have been working on becoming compliant.I have also heard of instances where providers are having trouble obtaining NPI numbers for their group due to the set up of their tax ID#. Why Search Engines Place High Value on Human-Edited Web Directories
In the technological world of websites, search engines and web directories have a long-standing relationship. Individuals who place their website links on web directories have a better shot at obtaining higher search engine ranking. Web directories are ones which can be human-edited or computer generated. There are a few different reasons why search engines place a high value on the web directories which are human-edited.Human-Edited Web Directories Are More ExactOne reason why search engines place high value on human-edited web directories is that directories of this kind are more exact. Since an actual human being is editing the information which comes in and placing it within the web directory, a search engine ranking will relate to this feature as it may prove to be more exact than when a computer is taking care of the web directories. Therefore, if a website owner wishes to get more links to their website, they should use a human-edited website, as this will go over better with the search engines that rank them.Human-Edited Web Dire
